The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,

In hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there.
¼º ´ÏÄݶ󽺰¡ ¿À½Ç°Å¶ó´Â Èñ¸ÁÀ» Ç°°í¼­.


The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
¾ÆÀ̵éÀº ¸ðµÎ ħ´ë¿¡ Æí¾ÈÇÏ°í °í¿äÇÏ°Ô ´©¿ö Àáµé¾î ÀÖ°í,
While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads.
²Þ³ª¶ó¿¡¼­´Â ´ÞÄÞÇÑ »çÅÁÀ» ²Þ²Ù°í,
And mamma in her kerchief, and I in my cap,
¾ö¸¶´Â ¸Ó¸®¼ö°ÇÀ» µÎ¸£°í, ³ª´Â ¸ðÀÚ¸¦ ¾²°í,
Had just settled our brains for a long winter¡¯s nap.
±â³ª±ä °Ü¿ïÀáÀ» ÀÚ°í ÀÖ½À´Ï´Ù.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
Áý ¹Û Àܵ𿡼­ µüµü°Å¸®´Â ¼Ò¸®°¡ ³ª±â¿¡
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
¹«½¼ ÀÏÀΰ¡ ÇÏ°í ħ´ë ¹ÛÀ¸·Î ³ª¿Í¼­,
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
¹ø°³Ã³·³ â°¡·Î ³¯¾Æ°¡¼­,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.
¼ÅÅ͸¦ Ȱ¦ ¿­¾ú½À´Ï´Ù.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
¼Òº¹È÷ ½×ÀÎ ´« À§¿¡ Àִ ´Þ´ÔÀº
Gave the luster of mid-day to objects below.
Áö»ó¿¡ ÀÖ´Â »ç¹°¿¡ ºûÀ» ºñÃß¾î Çѳ·Ã³·³ º¸ÀÔ´Ï´Ù.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
¹Ù·Î ±× ¼ø°£ ³» ´«¿¡ µé¾î¿Â °ÍÀº
But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer.
ÀÛÀº ½ä¸Å¿Í ¿©´ü¸¶¸®ÀÇ ÀÛÀº ¼ø·ÏÀ̾ú½À´Ï´Ù.

With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
Å°°¡ ÀÛ°í ³ªÀÌ°¡ µé¾úÁö¸¸ ¸Å¿ì »ýµ¿°¨ÀÖ°í »¡¸® ¿òÁ÷ÀÌ´Â ¿îÀü»ç¸¦ º¸°í
I knew in a moment it must be St Nick.
±Ý¹æ ±×°¡ ¼º ´ÏÄݶó½ºÀΰÍÀ» ¾Ë¾Ò½À´Ï´Ù. 
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
µ¶¼ö¸® º¸´Ùµµ ´õ »¡¸® ¼º ´ÏÄݶ󽺴 ¼ø·Ïµé°ú ÇÔ²² ³»·Á¿Ô°í,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!
ÈÖÆĶ÷À» ºÎ¸£±âµµ ÇÏ°í ¼Ò¸®¸¦ Ä¡±âµµ ÇÏ°í À̸§À» ºÎ¸£±âµµ Çϸ鼭 ³»·Á¿Ô½À´Ï´Ù.

"Now Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen!
Èû³»! ´ë¼­! ¾î¼­! ´í´õ! ÇÁ·£¼­! ºò½¼!
On, Comet! On, Cupid! on, on Donner and Blitzen!
¾î¼­! ÄÚ¹Ô! ¼­µÑ·¯, Å¥Çǵå! ¾î¼­ µµ³Ê! ºí¸®Ãù!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Çö°ü À§·Î! º® À§·Î!
Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!"
ÀÚ ÀÌÁ¦ ´Þ·Á! ´Þ·Á! ´Þ¸®¶ó°í!

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
°Å¼¾ Ç㸮ÄÉÀÎÀÌ ºÒ±âÀüÀÇ ¸¶¸¥ ³ª¹µÀÙµéó·³
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky.
Çϴ÷Π¿Ã¶ó°¡¸é¼­ Àå¾Ö¹°À» ¸¸³µÀ» ¶§
So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,

With the sleigh full of Toys, and St Nicholas too.
Àå³­°¨À¸·Î °¡µæÇÑ ½ä¸Å¿Í ¼º ´ÏÄݶ󽺴 ¿Ã¶ú½À´Ï´Ù.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
¹Ù·Î ±× ¶§, ¹Ý¦À̸鼭 ³ª´Â ÁöºØ À§¿¡¼­ µé·Á¿À´Â ¾î¶² ¼Ò¸®¸¦ µé¾ú½À´Ï´Ù.
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
ÀÛÀº ¹ß±ÁÀ¸·Î ±øÃæ±øÃæ ¶Ù¾î´Ù´Ï±âµµ ÇÏ°í ¹ß±ÁÀ¸·Î ±Ü±âµµ ÇÏ°í
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
³»°¡ ¼ÕÀ» ´ç°Ü ºù±Û ºù±Û µ¹ ¶§
Down the chimney St Nicholas came with a bound.
¼º ´ÏÄݶ󽺰¡ ±¼¶Ò¿¡¼­ ´Ü¼û¿¡ ³»·Á¿Ô½À´Ï´Ù.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,

And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot.

A bundle of Toys he had flung on his back,

And he looked like a peddler, just opening his pack.

His eyes-how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
´«Àº ¾ó¸¶³ª ¹Ý¦ÀÌ´ÂÁö! º¸Á¶°³´Â ¾ó¸¶³ª ±Í¿±°Ô º¸ÀÌ´ÂÁö!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
º¼Àº Àå¹Ìó·³ »¡°²°í, Äڴ ü¸®Ã³·³ »¡°²°í ±Í¿©¿üÁÒ.
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
ÀÍ»ì¸ÂÀº ÀÛÀº ÀÔÀº Ȱó·³ Á¶±Ý ³ª¿Í ÀÖ¾ú°í
And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow.

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
ÀÌ »çÀÌ¿¡ ÆÄÀÌÇÁ¸¦ ²Ë ¹°°í´Â
And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath.
¿Õ°ü°°Àº ¿¬±â¸¦ ¸Ó¸® À§ÂÊÀ¸·Î ³» »Õ¾ú½À´Ï´Ù.
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
³ÐÀûÇÑ ¾ó±¼°ú ÀÛ°í µ¿±×¶õ ¹è°¡ Èçµé·È½À´Ï´Ù.
That shook when he laughed, like a bowlful of jelly!
¿ôÀ»¶§¿¡´Â ÇÑ ±×¸©ÀÇ Á©¸®Ã³·³ ¸»ÀÔ´Ï´Ù.

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
±×´Â ¶×¶×ÇÏ°í ¸íÄèÇÑ ³ªÀÌ°¡ ¸¹Àº ¿äÁ¤À̾ú½À´Ï´Ù.
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself!
Àú´Â ±×¸¸ ±×¸¦ º¸°í ¿ô°í ¸»¾Ò½À´Ï´Ù.
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
±×ÀÇ À®Å©¸¦ º¸°í ¶Ç ±×ÀÇ ¼Ò¿ëµ¹ÀÌ °°Àº ¸Ó¸®¸¦ º¸°í´Â
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.
¹«¼­¿ö ÇÒ °Ô Çϳªµµ ¾Æ´Ï±¸³ª ÇÏ°í »ý°¢ÇÏ°Ô µÇ¾ú½À´Ï´Ù.

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
±×´Â ÇÑ ¸¶µðµµ ÇÏÁö ¾Ê°í ±×³É ÀÚ½ÅÀÇ ÀÏÀ» Çß½À´Ï´Ù.
And filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk.
¾ç¸»¿¡ ¼±¹°À» °¡µæ ä¿ì°í ±ÞÈ÷ µ¹¾Æ¼¹½À´Ï´Ù.
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
ÄÚ ¿·¿¡ ¼Õ°¡¶ôÀ» ´ë´õ´Ï
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose!
¸ñ·Ê¸¦ ÇÏ°í ±¼¶Ò À§·Î ¿Ã¶ó°¡ ¹ö·È½À´Ï´Ù.

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
±×´Â ½ä¸Å¿¡ ¿Ã¶ó ¼ø·Ï¿¡°Ô ÈÖÆĶ÷À» ºÒ´õ´Ï
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
¾û°ÏÄûÀÇ »Ñ¸®ÂÊó·³ °¡º±°Ô ³¯¾Æ°¬½À´Ï´Ù.
But I heard him exclaim, ¡®ere he drove out of sight,
±×°¡ ½Ã¾ß¿¡¼­ ¸Ö¾îÁö¸é¼­ Àú´Â ±×ÀÇ ¸ñ¼Ò¸®¸¦ µé¾ú½À´Ï´Ù.
"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!"
